This area of Provence is wonderful for those who love to walk; cycle; paint; canoe; swim, shop or partake of the local culinary delights. Hill villages, chateaux and vineyards cover the landscape. We are an hour or so away from the Camargue, the Ardeche and the Cevennes, not to mention the rest of Provence. The mediaeval walled city of Avignon is nearby as are Orange, Nimes and Arles with their remarkably preserved Roman remains. Ten minutes away is the beautiful town of Uzes, an ancient Duchy much of which was built in the 15th. and 16th. Century and earlier. With its teeming sidewalk cafes, restaurants and shops, it hosts a Saturday Provencal market that must be amongst the most colorful and picturesque in Europe. |
