LOCAL TOURISM
Capestang is a lively and popular wine-producing village (population approx. 3500), with plenty of character and a friendly population.

The village square at the foot of the impressive 13th century church has cafes and restaurants and is the setting for a twice-weekly market selling fresh local produce (olives, cheeses, wines and oysters to name but a few!). Capestang has all facilities (banks with ATMs, large supermarket, pharmacy, doctors, dentist, etc.).

Easily accessible, with budget flights to Carcassonne, Montpellier and Perpignan airports about 1 hour's drive away, Toulouse and Girona 2 hours.

This first-floor apartment is a very successful combination of old and new, with wonderful exposed beams - one of 14 different designs in a former winery converted about twenty years ago. It is light, airy and very spacious (960 sq.ft.) - the large open plan kitchen area is excellently equipped, while the lounge / dining room opens onto the sunny south-facing terrace overlooking the port, with barbecue and garden furniture. Perfect for relaxing with a glass of wine and watching the world go by!

This is a very popular holiday destination. The Midi region from Montpelier to Perpignan, and from the Haute Languedoc national park to the Mediterranean beaches, boasts a superb climate and a rich cultural heritage, and is the largest area of vineyards in the world. The area abounds with picturesque villages set in a magnificent landscape of vines, forests, river valleys and hillsides, with open views to the ocean and distant Pyrenees.

Within 30 minutes drive are: Agde - the "black pearl" of the Mediterranean. Beziérs - with its flight of 7 canal locks and aqueduct over the river Orb.

Bize - Olive oil cooperative and river bathing. Colombiers - oldest canal tunnel in the world. Golf - St Thomas, Beziers.

Fontfroide - Cistercian Abbey founded in 1145. Rose garden with over 2000 bushes.

Narbonne - the oldest Roman city in France, with its imposing Cathedral and wonderful market. Minerve - ancient and spectacular Cathar village on the river Cesse, once capital of the Minervois. Oppidum Enserune - abandoned hill top city, dating back 2600 years.

Quarante – village with Romanesque church dating from 982. Roquebrun - Mediterranean Gardens. Reals - canoing centre on the Orb.

St Chinian - local wines and Sunday market. Valras plage and other resorts with miles of sandy beaches.

Waymarked walks and cycle paths. And numerous Chateaux and Domains producing excellent wines at reasonable prices.
